Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor is a kid-focused comedy show hosted on a digital stage by monster Mike Wazowski at Magic Kingdom theme park.

The Laugh Floor at Monsters, Inc. has been transformed into a comedy club for visiting humans. Inspired by the Disney-Pixar movie Monsters, Inc., in this show the audience must help "Monster of Ceremonies" Mike Wazowski and his wild and crazy pals power the city of Monstropolis-with laughter! Skeptical manager Roz, however, isn't so sure Mike can pull it off.

You won't have the exact same experience twice as Mike invites his funny, furry friends to the digital stage to trade jokes with audience members like you.

Text your favorite joke and it could be used in the show! Before you enter the main show area, watch the video for a special text messaging password. Then, use your phone keypad to enter and send the joke. The Monsters might choose your joke and use it on stage!

As part of the Year of a Million Dreams Celebration (which began October 1, 2006), Disney unveiled a new attraction in the Magic Kingdom called The Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor on the site of the former Tomorrowland show, The Timekeeper. Guests find the power of laughter in an engaging and interactive new adventure inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Monsters, Inc." as they match wits with the one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski and his friends.

Touring Tips

  • Theater seats about 400 and seating is on hard plastic seats.
  • There are lots of corny jokes and since it seats 400 guests, the wait usually isn't bad.
  • Kids typically love this show and are convinced that's really Mike Wazowski talking to them.
  • While you're waiting, you can text in some jokes that they might use during the show.
  • The show's unscripted nature is designed to make each performance unique. However, there are some common jokes that appear more frequently than others.
  • In the theatre, movable cameras are used by performers backstage to locate guests with whom they would like to interact. A Disney cast member in the theatre will then take a microphone to the selected guest so that the guest can talk to the performers.

The Show

There is a short preshow movie that runs while guests wait to enter the theater. There is also an opportunity for anyone waiting in the preshow to text their favorite joke to a special number. The joke may be used in the performance when they do jokes by humans at the end.

"Laughter gives us power. If you humans don't laugh loud enough, we may not have enough power to open the exit doors." That's the premise behind the Laugh Floor show, which is kicked off by Roz, the creepy secretary-type character from Monsters Inc. Roz is the first image seen on-screen, and she oversees the crowd entering the theater, then introduces Mike Wazowski, the one-eyed monster from the film, who serves as host of the show.

Several cameras planted in the ceiling over the audience spotlight members on the big screens at the front of the theater, with silly captions underneath. One camera finds an adult male, who then becomes the object of several running jokes for the remainder of the show. As the show progresses, Mike introduces a number of monster "acts," in the hope of generating laughter that will be stored in the giant canister on the side of the stage. (Note that the other monsters, the last of whom is Mike's nephew, Marty, were not in the Monsters, Inc. movie.) During each act, a camera picks out a person at random (could be adult or child) and a cast member rushes over so they can answer questions asked by the character onscreen like "what's your name?" or "where are you from?" Using technology similar to that employed by "Turtle Talk with Crush" over at Epcot, the characters can "see" the audience member, and use the audience responses to tell jokes.

By the end of the show, the canister is full and Roz appears to dismiss the audience.

Facts

  • The attraction debuted in March 2007.
  • Utilizes digital puppetry technology similar to Epcot's voice-directed Turtle Talk with Crush. Live actors perform voices behind a large digital screen, while computer-rendered monsters appear with the actors' voices.
  • The working name of the show during production was the 'Laugh Floor Comedy Club'; prior to soft openings it was renamed 'Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor Comedy Club'. Promotional materials and a logo were also created using this name. On March 19, the official name of the attraction was changed from this to the current name.

Hidden Mickeys

  • As you enter the attraction, look for a window display of a city, on the rear of the wall to the right just past the entrance doors to the second room. A classic Mickey is under the apex of the triangular roof segment on the building in the front center of the window display.
