Conservation Station gives Guests of all ages a fun and educational behind-the-scenes look at the animals of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. The exhibits are in an air-conditioned station where you can meet some of the animal handlers, see some animals and learn about the veterinary care, research and food preparation that are part of the day-to-day activities in Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park. Enjoy beautiful murals depicting a variety of animal species and take part in wild animal experiences, entertaining games and shows, and other fun-filled activities that help promote wildlife conservation awareness.
At the Rafiki's Planet Watch, the first building that visitors see is topped with spectacular, large, colorful murals of the animals.Inside, you will find viewing areas where exams and surgical procedures may be observed.In addition to the veterinary facilities, experts are on hand to educate you on the caring for, and meal preparation for the many animals found in Disney's Animal Kingdom.Pellets for the parrots, "cookies" for the elephants and live mealy worms for the meerkats are some of the delicacies prepared for the Animal Kingdom's inhabitants.There is a multitude of information on conservation efforts of organizations throughout the world, including a computer that can tell you where the one nearest to your hometown is.There are many interactive displays with environmental information and tips for preserving our natural resources including sound booths featuring the sounds of the rain forest.Touch screens allow you to check out the Animal Cams throughout the park.
Conservation station is where you get to take a look at how Disney cares for the animals at Animal Kingdom. There are several different stations.
- Animal Encounters - Stroke a lizard's head held by an animal keeper.
- Veterinary Treatment Room - See how animals are treated. (Surgery is performed in the mornings.)
- Hatchery - See what's happening in the hatchery.
- Food Preparation Room - See how the animal's food is prepared.
Touring Tips
- Conservation Station is part of Rafiki's Planet Watch, an area dedicated to the preservation and conservation of animals. To get to Rafiki's Planet Watch, board the Wildlife Express Train in the Harambe, Africa area of Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park.
- If you want to get a real up close and personal look at animals, really up close and personal, take a trip on the Wildlife Express to Conservation Station and see where the animals sleep, eat and are taken care of.
