Disney Junior - Live on Stage!

Disney Junior - Live on Stage! at Disney California Adventure Park provides preschoolers the chance to sing, dance and play! Popular Characters come to life with enchanting puppets, bright visuals, whimsical scenery and catchy songs. Join the gang from Disney Junior shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny and Little Einsteins. Be on the lookout for the cast of Jake and the Never Land Pirates-the newest addition to the Disney Junior line up-as they thwart their foe, Captain Hook!

This live stage show features the current stars of Disney's children's entertainment shows. The story and line-up has changed over the years to reflect the currently popular characters and currently you can stop in to see characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Handy Manny, Little Einsteins, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

Facts

• In March 2011, Playhouse Disney changed its name to Disney Junior Live! with Characters from Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Little Einsteins, Handy Manny, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
• Disney Live is a touring stage show produced by Feld Entertainment under agreement with The Walt Disney Company. Aimed primarily at children, the shows feature performers dressed as Disney cartoon characters in performances that each derive their music and plot from elements collected from various Disney films and properties; the "stars" of the show are credited as the Disney characters themselves, performing their parts in mock cameos, while the performers themselves remain anonymous.
• Disney Live currently runs five productions and touring companies at any given time. The shows have played all over the world, including non-traditional Disney markets such as South America, the Middle East, and Asia; as well as more traditional markets such as North America, Australia and Europe.

History

When DCA opened this space was actually a restaurant called ABC Soap Opera Bistro and its attached store ABC Soap Link. The restaurant (and store merchandise) was themed for fans of the ABC network's lineup of soap operas, going so far as having the wait staff dress as stars of those shows. In the end, though, it proved a little to high end and never really found an audience. Various plans were rumored for reviving it as a restaurant but in the end it was abandoned and closed after just 21 months on November 4, 2002.

When ABC Soap Opera Bistro closed in 2002 it immediately began its conversion to Playhouse Disney - Live on Stage, which opened in April 2003. The time spent in the spotlight is generally short in children's entertainment and several shows have cycled through to match changes in the Playhouse Disney lineup on The Disney Channel. The first show featured characters from Rolie Polie Olie, Stanley, The Book of Pooh, and Bear in the Big Blue House. Eventually, Rolie Polie Olie and Book of Pooh were replaced by JoJo's Circus on March 14, 2008. The current show name changed to Disney Junior in March, 2011 and the Pooh characters were replaced by the stars of Jake and the Neverland Pirates.
